Retail Un-therapy
Oh, lovely Bangkok.
After a not too bad but not very fun overnight bus ride, we arrived in Bangkok around 6:30 this morning. We avoided all of the tuk tuk drivers and walked straight to the Khao San Road Palace hotel, where we stayed last time. Walking down Khao San Road at this hour, there were still several groups of inebriated people drinking away. There was a group of 5 or so guys at a table next to a family having breakfast. The young girl was just staring at the guys in a stupor of shock. Oh well, the sooner she learns about men behaving badly, the better.
We didn't have to wait long for a room, but we did have to wait until 9:00 for them to clean it. With 2 hours to kill, we got some breakfast, burned some photo CDs, used the internet, and walked up and down the street a few times, trying to get the swelling in Nigel's feet to go down. At 9:00, we went to our room, changed into our bathers, and spent all morning at the hotel pool. The pool is on the roof, and it's actually quite a peaceful spot overlooking the city and away from the tuk tuks. The pool water was warm, but refreshing compared to the hot, humid Bangkok stickiness. We sat in the shade for a while reading our books, taking a dip every now and then.
We managed to pull ourselves away from the pool just after noon and headed to the shopping malls of Bangkok. We had a few items to get where the cheap knock-offs available on the street just wouldn't do, like new sunglasses for Nigel and some pants for Kel (I have bought several cheap pairs, but they all suck). After a very long afternoon (we both hate shopping), we finally managed to get everything we needed and headed back to K.S.R. for cheap street pad thai for dinner. We were exhausted and went to bed fairly early.
